A Day in New York City
Project type
Illustrations
Date
August 2025
Location
Blank Street Coffee, Public Restrooms at Plaza Hotel, Central Park, Hotel Lounge
I’m currently trying to develop my personal illustration style. In this process, I aim to “create, not critique.” The easiest way for me to approach this is to illustrate my personal experiences using humor and fun mark-making.
Follow a day in NYC with me through my illustrations:
10 a.m.: I got lost in the city. A frustrating hour into my detour, I got denied from all the public restrooms along Central Park. The Plaza Hotel “bouncer” was the strictest.
When I finally reached my destination, I illustrated our exchange on my coffee cup with the only medium I had on hand: lip liner.
11 a.m.: Free Central Park Portraits! I abandoned my lip liner and bought a pen, experimenting with new patterns and lines (and even makeup).
2 p.m.: I coaxed a hotel manager into letting me into the guest lounge to order a single item: a Diet Coke. It realllly hit the spot.
